Basic structure

Polar plate: composed of positive and negative polar plates, usually the positive electrode plate is lead dioxide (PbO ₂), and the negative electrode plate is sponge like lead (Pb). The electrode plate is the core component of the battery that undergoes electrochemical reactions, and the charging and discharging process of the battery is achieved through the gain and loss of electrons by the active material.

Electrolyte: Generally, it is an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid (H ₂ SO ₄), which plays a role in ion conduction inside the battery and participates in the electrochemical reactions of the battery. During the charging and discharging process, sulfuric acid interacts with the active substances on the electrode plate to achieve the conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy.

Partition: placed between the positive and negative plates, commonly used are AGM partitions or PVC partitions. Its function is to prevent short circuits between the positive and negative plates, while allowing ions in the electrolyte to pass through, ensuring the smooth progress of electrochemical reactions.

Battery compartment and battery cover: usually made of engineering plastics such as ABS, with good insulation and mechanical strength, used to accommodate components such as plates and electrolytes, ensuring the sealing and safety of the battery.

    Working principle

    Discharge process: During discharge, lead (Pb) on the negative electrode plate reacts with sulfate ions (SO ₄² ⁻) in the electrolyte to form lead sulfate (PbSO ₄), which releases electrons and negatively charges the negative electrode. Lead dioxide (PbO ₂) on the positive electrode plate reacts with sulfuric acid (H ₂ SO ₄) and electrons to produce lead sulfate (PbSO ₄) and water (H ₂ O), forming a current circuit and outputting electrical energy to the outside.

    Charging process: When charging the battery, the above reaction proceeds in reverse under the action of an external power source. Lead sulfate (PbSO ₄) is converted back to lead dioxide (PbO ₂) and lead (Pb) on the positive and negative plates, respectively. As the concentration of sulfuric acid (H ₂ SO ₄) increases, the battery stores electrical energy.

    High safety: After long-term development and improvement, the safety of lead-acid batteries has been well guaranteed. For example, lead-acid batteries with sealed design can effectively prevent electrolyte leakage and reduce safety hazards during use.
