Lithium battery aging test refers to observing the changes in parameters such as capacity, internal resistance, and voltage by charging and discharging the battery in cycles or leaving it in a static state under certain temperature and time conditions. The test methods usually include:
High temperature aging test: leaving the battery in a high temperature environment (such as 45℃~60℃) for several days;
Cyclic aging test: continuous charging and discharging for several times (tens to hundreds of times);
Normal temperature static aging test: detecting the performance changes of the battery after being stored for a period of time.
2. Why do we need to do lithium battery aging test?
1. Screening for early failure products (Early Failure Detection)
Aging test can detect manufacturing defects, poor cell consistency or batteries prone to internal short circuits in advance to prevent them from entering the market.
2. Stabilize battery performance
Newly produced batteries have uneven electrochemical activity. After aging, the activity tends to be stable, which is conducive to improving the consistency of the entire batch of batteries.
3. Detect safety risks
Some batteries may have safety hazards such as bulging, leakage, thermal runaway, etc. after internal stress such as thermal expansion and micro short circuit. Aging test can expose such problems.
4. Evaluate battery life decay trend
Cyclic aging test can preliminarily determine the capacity retention rate and internal resistance change of the battery under long-term use, providing a basis for system design and after-sales.
5. Customer requirements for quality
Most energy storage, electric vehicles, and consumer electronics customers require that the factory batteries must be aged for a certain period of time to ensure the reliability and service life of the battery.
